A Prescription for Happiness

Happy Journal August 31st

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I was anticipating a challenging week. Well, it was that indeed!

There were migraines. Sleep issues. Extreme fatigue and more. The worst of it was that I accidentally spilled water on my laptop and it fried. Thankfully, my files were recovered, but it’s taken a while to get back up and running.

This week, in my Happy Journal, I used the Color Story 4 and Happy Quotes sticker books for my spread. Each month, I do a wellness challenge and for September it is to doodle every day. I like to draw but don’t usually have the time for it. I picked those sticker books because they have doodle type stickers. I’m hoping they will be a source of inspiration and, frankly, help me remember to do it every day.

I have to admit, I didn’t put too much thought into the spread. I’m pretty tired because my four year old has been waking in the middle of the night for some reason. I didn’t realize until afterwards that the whole spread is very “Happy Planner”. The Happy Planner released their Fall collection this week. And Stephanie, the co-founder, has a book club for her book Plan A Happy Life which starts later on in the week. Maybe my brain is working after all; subconsciously at least.

I filmed this Plan With Me the day before and recorded the voice over today. Like I said, no real thought behind what I designed. I wanted to do a talk through while I planned instead of doing a voice over but I just couldn’t make that happen. Apparently, I can’t talk and plan at the same time. But I think that’s for the best because I usually get some insight days later into what I’ve done and God gives me a message to share. To be honest, when I first thought about doing these kinds of videos, it was just supposed to be about stickers and planning and design, not really talking about anything significant. But I guess God had other plans, as He usually does.

Today, during my bible reading time, I came across some verses about being “happy”. I should mention that I’m currently reading the CSB version which uses the word “happy” but other versions, like the ESV, use the word “blessed”. I wouldn’t normally equate those two words so I’m glad I was reading the CSB otherwise I probably would not have picked up on this.

How happy are those who reside in your house, who praise you continually.
Happy are the people whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.
Happy is the person who trusts in you.

Psalm 84

Now, I haven’t read Stephanie’s book as yet so I’m not sure what she has to say about planning a happy life exactly. I do know that The Happy Planner brand is very positive and encouraging, and I’ve personally been helped by using them in addition to my faith.

I take a lot of comfort from this biblical prescription for Happiness because I think it leads to a lasting joy and peace. Regardless of what comes my way, whether good times or hard times, my happiness is more than a feeling.

My practical takeaways from these verses are to…

1.. abide in Christ and grow in my relationship with Him.

2.. practice gratitude, always giving thanks.

3.. rely on God and do everything by His strength and not my own. Being at home with kids, I have had to learn this many times over.

4.. remember that this world is not our home and live like it.

5.. trust in God. It’s easy to say that I trust in Him but He keeps showing me that I don’t always live like I do. I am very much a planner!

I hope this encourages you.

Joy & Peace, Sister!
